The Rep season finished with a weekend long tournament in Invercargill 1st-3rd October contested by 5 teams. Friday 1st: A close 3-2 loss against Otago in the opening game set the tone and a hard task ahead for the Maroon team to make the final. Later that day in terrible weather a win against Southland Gold 4-0 steadied the ship. Saturday 2nd: This was another win against Eastern Southland 3-1. Sunday 3rd: A win in the last round robin game against North Otago 9-0 ment a rematch against Otago in the Final later that day.
What a game the final turned out to be!!! A fantastic exciting match that could have gone either way. 1-1 at full time ment the game had to go to extra time, both teams had their chances to grab the win but some great defence saved the day. So extra time ended and no change to the score sent the match into a penalty shootout. A hard way to decide such an even game! The boys handled the pressure well and closed out Otago with a 4-2 result.
A great game played by both teams and a worthy final. Well done boys, you gave us all a great thrill. A gold medal to finish the season, how good is that!!!
